17 Sep NYFW – Erin Featherston Spring/Summer 2016
Erin Fetherston is one of those designers whose clothes should always be photographed in soft, natural light in a meadow or some other type of romantic situation. That David Hamilton look, minus the creepy sexualization of underage girls, of course. The downside to her hyper-feminine and whimsical collections is that she can be a little kitschy at times. Sometimes, she does tend to veer off into the sweetly pretty that can make one miss the edge. And there’s certainly a room for that in fashion. In her New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016 runway show, we find some darker tones than we are used to from previous seasons, and the gamble paid off in full. Short dark culottes, overalls and shorts provided some needed variety, and the needlepoint-inspired tiny little embroidered purses that are so Instagrammable they can’t help but be a success. Anne of Avonlea transformed into the 21st Century, wearable, cute, and just the right amount of whimsy to appeal to a lot of younger women out there.
