FW15 KATIE GALLAGHER NEW YORK

15 Feb NYFW – Katie Gallagher FW2015

Friend of ours and amazing stylist responsible for our first DE-exclusive editorial Katie Gallagher unveiled her latest collection at Pier 59, and, as usual, she’s highly conceptual. This season, it’s synesthesia, the neurological condition where people’s senses intermingle; they don’t just see colors, they taste colors. A famous example for this is electronic music legend Aphex Twin. For this collection, Katie described the color concept as an object coming into focus, perceived as a color, but not initially as an object. And color was featured in the form of bright cherry reds against her staple black fabrics. Shapes were definitely more feminine than previous seasons, with flares, trapeze-cut dresses and bell-shaped coats that created soft, ethereal shapes that flatter the body. Katie is hitting her stride; I believe this is her best collection to date.

Katie’s collections are always challenging, but this time we’re surprised to see a collection that is incredibly wearable and commercial. That said, the clothing is sprinkled with those little Katie-isms that we’ve all come to love; Little Red Riding Hood-style capes, for example. But those silhouettes! So successful, so feminine, and less harsh than Katie’s previous work. Every piece of this collection could be an instant staple in any woman’s closet. And that’s a good thing. The more people wearing Katie Gallagher, the better.
